A new supplier is offering basmati rice that is fully traceable to the estate where it was produced.

The Real Basmati Rice Co said it sourced all its rice from small estates and family farms in the Punjab rather than buying from commodity auctions, where the harvest is usually pooled from multiple farms.

“Quality and transparency are of paramount importance to us,” said founder Shahid Mehdi.

After being harvested, the rice is sun-dried and de-husked before being aged for 12 months, a process the company said gave it a more aromatic taste and ensured the grains did not stick together when cooked.

The company currently sells rice through Amazon (rsp: £3.95/1kg).
