Brazilian apple growers are being offered the opportunity to use a quality mark on packing and individual fruit for the season which is about to begin. The green and red roundel, which covers Extra, Class I and Class II fruit, is the property of the national growers association, ABPM, and producers must meet specific packing and environmental standards to qualify. The scheme has already been welcomed by Fischer Fraiburgo Agricola, the country's biggest exporter which has already invested over $3m in improving its quality assurance disciplines. Brazil exports about 8% of its 725,000 tonne production, and in the past has made headway in the UK, particularly with Gala. Armed with the new logo, FFA hopes its overseas sales will rise from 7,000 tonnes to 10,000 tonnes this season. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
