French apples are set to hit UK retailers three weeks earlier than normal, as this year's harvest has been brought forward by unusual weather.

Supplies of French apples to the UK are now expected to commence at the end of July instead of the more usual mid-August.

French apple association the ANPP said "spring-like" weather in February had led to early flowering in March. Although France had subsequently suffered from unusually dry weather, apple trees had been largely unaffected, it ­added.
