Aquaculture study aims to boost data on farmed fish

Aquaculture industry: only partial data is available

The government is eyeing a new regime for collecting data on the aquaculture industry to fill gaps in its knowledge.

At present, the government relies on sources such as the ONS to collect data, but they only provide a partial amount of information on areas such as income, energy costs and volumes.

The MMO and Seafish have commissioned a pilot study to “evaluate the potential for collecting the complete economic information currently required”.

The study will be carried out by consultants Frontline and Poseidon Aquatic Resource Management. Information will be collected through face-to-face interviews, via mail, email and telephone.
