Arla said it had failed to find a buyer for the Kent-based operation and that all H T Webb’s customers had found alternative suppliers.
Some 160 staff have been made redundant at H T Webb’s Gravesend distribution centre. The building has been put up for sale and the equipment inside it will be auctioned off later this month.
In November Arla announced plans to close or dispose of the business. It said the small financial returns to be made from cutting, wrapping and distributing specialist cheese products manufactured by other companies were to blame for for its decision.
