The banana price war is officially over, after Asda and Sainsbury's this week followed Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose in raising the price of loose bananas.

Both supermarkets abandoned their previous rock-bottom price point of 55p per kilo this week, with Sainsbury's raising to 69p and Asda to 67p.

The move comes after Tesco last week increased its price by 25%, from 55p to 69p, swiftly followed by Waitrose (58p to 69p) and Morrisons (55p to 69p). It brings to an end the price war that has been raging since September.
