The Dutch are usually a pretty optimistic lot, especially compared to us Brits, and Netherlands-based retailer Ahold was suitably upbeat yesterday as it said there was no evidence of punters trading down. The Financial Times takes a look.

After Tesco today announced plans to relocate its banking operation to Edinburgh, which you can read about here, the Daily Mail reports that Tesco Personal Finance is cashing in on consumers’ distaste for the major banks with a surge in deposits.

Today’s health scare in the Mail is about fruit juice – it gives you liver failure, apparently.

Only marginally less alarmist is the paper’s report on Scottish plans to set minimum prices for booze to help curb excessive drinking. Could the legislation come to England next?
