The South African Granny Smith season got under way with the first arrivals into the UK this week.
Capespan took delivery of the first 5,000 boxes on Tuesday, and said quality of the fruit was looking excellent.
Marketing manager Martin Dunnett said this year's crop was of good size. Capespan expected to export 1.2 million cartons to the UK this season.
Significant volumes of Golden Delicious are already arriving in the UK where Capespan also expects to sell 1.2 million cartons this year. To support the fruit, Capespan was conducting tasting sessions in around 100 Tesco stores across the north of England for two days last week.
