Scientists have proposed the construction of a “giant vat” of artificial meat as a possible solution to an impending global food shortage.

With the world population predicted to rise to 9 billion by 2050, some of the world’s leading scientists have raised concerns over the sustainability of global food supplies.

In a new report by the Royal Society, the challenge of increasing global food supplies by up to 70% in the next 40 years was achievable.

One possible solution was the creation of a “giant vat” of artificial meat, said Dr Philip Thornton, a scientist with the International Livestock Research Institute in Nairobi.
