Asda has become the fastest-growing wine retailer in the UK, the supermarket giant claimed yesterday.

With year-on-year growth of 49% in wine sales, according to the latest data from TNS, wine buying chief Karen Doran declared the retailer was setting the agenda in wine.

"As well as the 49% value growth, our market share has risen by 34.3% over a 12-week period," said Doran.

Data from analysts TNS also showed that Asda had boosted its market share over the four weeks to 7 September to claim 15.5% of the domestic market.

"Our market shows Asda's commitment to delivering quality wines combined with value prices is really hitting the mark with customers."

The news comes with Asda having revamped its wine offer, boosting its selection to 680 wines and introducing new facings to provide shoppers with more information and what the supermarket called a "clear price hierarchy".
