Retailers are jostling to be first to market with new season British produce. Asda claims to have won the race to stock the first British round tomatoes, with Yorkshire-grown produce from English Village Salads hitting stores last week. Tesco began stocking the first Jersey Royal potatoes last month, while Sainsbury's rolled out its Jersey Royals this week - three weeks earlier than last year. The first Cornish early new potatoes, along with Cornish asparagus, have also gone on sale from Bristol Fruit Sales.
