Asda has announced that it will source all its wild-caught fresh and frozen fish from fisheries certified by the Marine Stewardship Council within three to five years, and work with less managed fisheries to make improvements.

Asda will also suspend the sale of North Sea cod while it works with Brussels and the North Sea Regional Advisory Committee to establish a stock recovery plan.

The supermarket is calling for the North Sea to be declared a marine conservation zone in order to preserve fish stocks for local fishing communities.
