Asda has kicked off a competition to find the UK’s best regional beers and cider.
The supermarket said yesterday it would be offering a three-month listing on its shelves for the competition winners, beginning from January 2009. If successful with customers, the winners could be handed an extended ‘guest listing’.
The winners will be selected from six categories: best ale in Scotland, the north of England and the south of England; best lager; best cider; and best speciality beer.
Asda said entrants would be judged on taste, packaging sustainability, design and labelling.
“We are passionate about putting the highest quality products on our shelves,” commented Asda beer buyer Jill Wilson. “That’s the inspiration behind the competition – allowing breweries, from the smallest to the largest, to give consumers a chance to sample new, quality tastes.”
