Asda has teamed up with Nutrition Point to launch what it claims is the industry's first range of chilled free-from foods.

The retailer is trialling a new range of chilled gluten and wheat-free pizzas and garlic bread under Nutrition Point's Dietary Specials brand across 30 Asda stores later this month.

Producing chilled free-from foods was more challenging than making ambient alternatives, as the gluten and wheat-free market was supplied by small manufacturers who struggled to afford the more expensive logistics costs entailed by chilled products, said Chris Hook, MD of Nutrition Point.

"It has taken a big brand such as Dietary Specials to be able to afford the extra cost," he said.

The Dietary Specials range comprises pepperoni and cheese feast pizzas (rsp: £3.45 and £3.10) and garlic bread (rsp: £2.65).
