Chris Tune, marketing controller with Del Monte, the leading fresh produce brand, said the retailer was testing the salads in 21 outlets.
“We have had a fantastic response from retailers following our launch at the Food and Drink Expo earlier in this year. Asda is trialling the range and, if successful, it will roll it out to other stores. We also aim to get the range into other retailers by the end of June.”
Tune said that the bagged salads had generated a lot of
interest from non-multiple retailers, but that they needed to generate volume through the supermarkets first.
Del Monte is also investing in its pre-prepared fruit business.
Tune said the company was spending £2m on its Wisbech facility to improve efficiency and increase capacity.
“We want to make it the best prepared-fruit factory in the world,” he added.
