A voluntary code of good practice for Scottish finfish aquaculture was officially launched this week by the Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation. The code is intended to prove the sector can guarantee the highest standards and defy environmental critics without a regulator, thereby guaranteeing investor confidence. More than 90% of the industry has signed up.
Sid Patten, SSPO chief executive, said: "With this independently audited code, the industry can demonstrate to government, stakeholders and customers that production standards and environmental practices reflect the best of modern aquaculture."
