A little known Victorian carrot variety is being re-introduced to the UK market following successful trials.

Isleham Fresh Produce is launching the Parisienne carrot exclusively into Waitrose’s Speciality Range.

The variety, available in 250g punnets until late November, is a unique round shape with a sweet taste and deep orange colour. It was originally developed at the turn of the 19th century in France.

IFP said following last year’s trial, production acreage had been extended and 100 tonnes grown this season, compared to just 15 tonnes last year.

Catriona Mowbray, national account manager, said: “The crop is looking good and sample digs have show it to have full colour and be very juicy.”
