This week's announcement by Malton Bacon Factory of its Middlesbrough plant closure takes out killing capacity for some 10,000 clean pigs a week, but does not affect the bacon side of the business, which is run from Wiveliscombe and Malton, with slicing at Ashton and Winsford. But it does point to a long-term view that UK pig numbers will decline for the foreseeable future: the consequences are clear for curers: fewer backs to cure. {{PROVISIONS }}
