Price rises marked a week of trade on the bacon markets with both the Dutch and the Danes moving up.
This week, however, market conditions remain similar with demand described as relatively quiet but steady across all sectors. One trader said: “There’s no edge to it at the moment.”
In the Dutch sector, the high pig prices on the continent are leading to the slaughter houses cutting back on the kill in a bid to reduct the cost. As a result, the combination of reduced slaughter and recent holidays means the Dutch cupboards are starting to look bare.
