The Grocer’s first Christmas Pricewatch survey of 2005 shows that shoppers are paying more for Baileys and Hardys wine but less for Stella Artois and Bell’s whisky compared with the same week last year.
The annual drinks pricing series, which begins this week, will be tracking drinks prices in the multiples during the run up to Christmas across four of the top-selling brands in beers, wines and spirits.
Compared with the same week last year, Baileys is still maintaining a price over the £10 mark with the lowest price being Tesco’s £10.87. Last year it ended up dropping to £9.88 for a one-litre bottle in Asda.
Hardys is also higher than this time last year at an average of 77p per 100ml - 4p more.
But Stella was cheaper than last year. The lowest price this week was found in Tesco at 11p per 100ml - 5p lower than this time last year.
