King Cupcakes, which are being rolled into Sainsbury’s now, will initially be available in a triple chocolate flavour, made from Belgian chocolate chips and a lemon flavour with real lemon zest to give them more adult appeal. A pack of four individually wrapped cakes is £1.39. Further varieties are being developed and are scheduled for launch next year.
Separately, the Finsbury Food Group has added Peppa Pig and Ben 10 celebration cakes to its menu in a bid to cash in on the popularity of the kids programmes. According to the company, which produces the cakes under licence, Ben 10 is the number one show on Cartoon Network and Peppa Pig is the second-best selling licensed character after Thomas & Friends.
