Over the next six weeks Asda is trialling sales of Oké brand Fairtrade bananas in 31 of its stores located in the West Midlands, East Anglia and London. The fruit from Costa Rica and Ghana is being supplied by Holland based AgroFair which has heralded it as a breakthrough. Until now the only outlet for the brand has been the Co-ops. Other multiples use other sources. It is being ripened and distributed by Fyffes and is priced at the equivalent of £1.38/kg compared with £1.08 for conventional bananas and £1.20 for organic. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
