Bill King, chief operating officer at Baxters, the Scottish soup and sauces maker, has been promoted to deputy chief executive.

“It is essential we have a strong management team in place to respond to the global challenges,” said Audrey Baxter, chairman and chief executive. “Bill has helped develop Baxters throughout his tenure as chief operating officer and this new appointment will enable him to implement our long-term strategic plans to expand in the UK and internationally.”

King joined Baxters in 2003 as supply chain director from Scotch distiller Chivas Brothers, where he held the role of European supply chain director.

King was promoted to chief operating officer in August 2006 and now has full responsibility for Baxters’ manufacturing plants located in the UK, Canada and Poland.

Baxters sold £50m of soup in 2007 and claims to be one of the UK’s leading premium food manufacturers.
