Sainsbury's hopes the launch of BrewDog Punk IPA in cans will bring new shoppers into the category and increase interest in craft beers.

A canned version of the 5.6% abv beer (rsp: £5.24 for a four-pack) is being stocked exclusively for 12 months by Sainsbury's and is rolling out to 250 stores nationwide. The launch is the first canned product from BrewDog, the controversial craft brewer that has made headlines in the past with beers such as the 55% abv End of History.

"Punk IPA will sit alongside our other canned ales and will hopefully act as a beacon for craft beer in this category," said Sainsbury's beer and cider buyer Oliver Chadwyck-Healey. "We expect this to appeal to a younger demographic and bring new people into the category."

Sainsbury's will list two American craft beers and more BrewDog lines from the end of this month.
