IPC's decision to make David Beckham the first cover star of Marie Claire magazine resulted in an unprecedented response from retailers across the country, according to the publisher. IPC says that before the issue even hit the shelves demand meant the June issue had to be reprinted. Publishing director Rita Lewis said: "This is the first time prior to going on sale that retailers were calling us demanding more issues. The excitement surrounding Beckham on the cover has created expectation of an exceptional sale. We are delighted to announce we have put Marie Claire back on the press to satisfy demand." Editor Marie O'Riordan added: "It's great news that the issue has been so well received. It was an historic decision to put a male cover star on Marie Claire and a real milestone in the magazine's history." {{CTN }}
