Highest in the EU Talk of trying to revive beef exports is prompted in part by many cattle producers' belief that the major processors and supermarkets have exploited foot and mouth to drive down livestock prices. But slaughterers and retailers can point to market data showing farmgate values in this country are among the highest in the EU. Latest official EU reference prices quoted by the MLC in its European Market Survey show the UK at 81.16p per kg liveweight in the week ended October 18, against about 75p in France, 68p in Ireland, and around 55p in Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. On a euro basis, the UK price of almost 130.00 per hundred kg is 18% above the EU average. {{MEAT }}
