Retailers could find themselves facing increased pressure for price rises on beef.
With the ongoing strength of the euro, the traditionally cheaper option of Irish cattle is no longer the case for UK processors.
And with the US currently switching from Canada to South America to source cheap meat, the overall situation has led to an increased demand for British cattle, industry sources said.
Whether this will lead to an increase in shelf prices for beef still remains to be seen, however.
