A new range of ready-packed alfalfa and mixed sprouting beans has been launched by WS Bentley.
The products, which have been launched into The Co-operative's larger and city-centre stores, are part of the company's And Sow On range of chilled salads targeted at home cooks.
Production of the new sprouting seed and bean varieties has grown from zero to 9,000 packs in the past three months, Bentley said.
They are being marketed on their freshness, with the mixed sprouting beans germinating in 24 hours and alfalfa in four days. Both arrive in store three days after germination and have a 10-day shelf life.
"Our varieties of sprouting seeds and beans are grown without pesticides at our own West Yorkshire nursery," said Jan Bentley, MD of WS Bentley.
"Our new growing operation has had a substantial investment to ensure that the process is technically sound and carried out to a very high standard."
