European fruit processors are warning of imminent price rises because of soaring raw material costs.

The industry's trade association, EFPMA, claimed that strawberry prices were up 30%, while blueberries and other berries had risen 20%. Secretary general Christoph Freitag said the price fluctuations went far beyond those seen in a normal year. He warned that customers in the dairy and bakery industries would be the worst affected.

The situation has been worsened by an EU decision to slap anti-dumping tariffs on frozen strawberries from China, said to be against the interests of all but a few Polish producers.
