Innocent Drinks has kicked off its annual Big Knit campaign, placing woollen hats on its bottled smoothies in all Sainsbury’s and Boots stores.
The initiative is part of Age UK’s new Spread the Warmth campaign, which seeks to raise awareness of the plight of the elderly in winter. Twenty-five pence from the sale of each hat-wearing bottle will go to the charity.
The funds would help the elderly stay warm this winter through the provision of advice and winter grants, Age UK said.
Members of the public and celebrities such as Sienna Miller and Christopher Biggins have knitted the 600,000 mini-beanies placed on the bottles yesterday.
Age UK expects to raise £200,000 as a result of the campaign.
