Birds Eye will be the first frozen food range to carry front-of-pack GDA labels from next month as Unilever rolls out the scheme across its brands.

Labelling across its range of Flora products will also launch the company's first move into GDAs, which flies in the face of the traffic light labels favoured by the Food Standards Agency.

It has also outlined plans to roll out GDAs onto its remaining brands, including Hellmann's, PG Tips, Bertolli, Chicken Tonight, Pot Noodle and Peperami, before the end of 2007.

"This initiative is kicking off with two of the company's biggest brands and is a key step in Unilever's nutritional education campaign," said a spokeswoman.

The Captain Birds Eye packaging will be one of the first ranges to carry GDAs specifically for children.

Sofia Costa, Unilever senior brand development manager, communications, added that the labels would help change perceptions for Birds Eye that frozen food was poor quality.
