Launched: 1967 Ad icon Captain Birds Eye has weathered some storms during his career as a landlubber. As a white-haired grandad-style captain with a Yo ho ho' voice, he inspired many a juvenile shipmate to munch a fishfinger, but was considered washed up in the 1970s and killed off briefly. After being recommissioned due to public demand, he was replaced in the 1990s by a designer stubble-wearing hunk. Unfortunately, although this reincarnation boosted appeal to young women, kids ­ the target audience ­ lost interest in the brand. The original salty sea dog is due to set sail again shortly. {{P&P }}
