A new scheme to help dairy farmers make unwanted bull calves more attractive to the meat supply chain has been launched by Blade Farming.

The Somerset business has spent 18 months researching which Holstein dairy sires produce the best-tasting beef and recommended eight bulls to farmers as Blade Star Sires.

"[The aim] is to increase the value of calves by improving the beef," said Blade MD Richard Phelps. "That should benefit British farming and create a viable alternative to shooting."
