Chile boosts production Hortifrut, one of Chile's best known berry fruit producers, is set to increase its blueberry production to massive proportions in the next decade. The producer is adding plantations, which will lead to production of more than three million trays in the next decade from 1,000 hectares. Its main region is near Ossorno, where Hortifrut has some 300 acres, but other areas have been earmarked near Santiago and Los Angeles in the southern central province. These will increase the country's stature as a major supplier during the winter and spring. The company had hoped to move towards producing a million trays this year, but poor weather conditions across the country forced it to reduce these estimates to about 777,000 trays. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
