It doesn’t usually fall to supermarkets to make political points, but an Edeka store in Hamburg last week gave shoppers something to think about, as well as to eat.
In fact, choices were severely limited at the store, which had removed all ‘foreign-made’ produce from shelves. The empty spaces were filled with signs saying things like ‘this shelf is pretty boring without diversity’.
As an election approaches, immigration is a hot topic in Germany. But which way will ‘not being able to get baguettes’ swing voters?
