Halloween has passed, but Rich Shaw of Southwick Stores, near Fareham, has created the ‘ghost pasty challenge’ for his brave customers.

There’s nothing spooky afoot - the ghost in question is the lethal ghost chilli, which Rich has been stuffing into pasties to entice macho snackers (and publicity) to his new tea room.

Rich wears protective goggles to make the face-melting delicacy and, perhaps wisely, hasn’t tried one himself (he’s “not really a massive chilli fan”). You’d have to be crazy - or have magical powers - to eat one. The first ‘person’ to succeed? A Mr Harry Potter, apparently.
