You’d expect a cash machine to give you only one thing. Cash, right? But Welsh-speaking shoppers at a Tesco store in Aberystwyth were promised something more last week.

An RBS cashpoint at the store carried the English text ‘free cash withdrawals,’ alongside a Welsh translation. However, instead of reading ‘Arian am ddim’ as it should have done, the sign actually said ‘Codiad am ddim’, which translates as ‘free erections.’ Wowzer!

It’s quite a promise, and quite a mistake - even taking into account the ‘and yet another consonant please, Rachel’ approach our Welsh cousins took when formulating their language.

Maybe the signwriter got a bit mixed up with the word ‘withdrawal’ - or simply mixed up his or her banks.
