Booker Group’s non-tobacco sales rose 30% in its second quarter

Booker has posted a 3.5% increase in second-quarter like-for-like sales, boosted by good summer weather.

The cash & carry wholesaler said like-for-like non-tobacco sales rose 6.9% in the 12 weeks to 13 September, although tobacco like-for-likes fell 2%.

Including Makro, total like-for-like sales soared 19.3%, with non-tobacco up 30% and tobacco up 1.8%.

For the 24 weeks to 13 September, total sales for group rose 16.5%.

“Booker Wholesale, our cash & carry division, had a good half,” said CEO Charles Wilson. “Customer numbers were up generating strong sales. The warm summer weather helped our customers.

“Booker Group has made a good start to the year as we continue to focus, drive and broaden our enlarged business,” he added. “Our plans for bringing Booker and Makro together are on track.”
