The multiples are rallying to support the third National Mango Week in a bid to boost sales.

Last year’s event was a huge success and saw UK sales of the fruit rise to £2.7 million in September, up 70% on August and up 57% on the previous September.

The Mango Association, the representative body made up of mango growers, marketing co-operatives, importers and distributors, is hoping this year’s promotion, which runs from September 8 to 14, will be even better.

Mark Moody, chairman, said: “Consumer penetration was up 29% and the average spent by consumers on mangoes during September 2002 reached £1.88 per trip, the highest four week level ever.”

The week will be supported with instore activities and consumer PR campaigns focusing on the health benefits of the mango.
