A collaboration of 20 dairy farmers that has been supplying milk to north west retailers has added cheese to its repertoire and has plans for crème fraîche and yoghurt.

Lancashire-based processor Connect Plus supplies 26 branches of Booths and ten Asda stores with Bowland Fresh milk. Now co-branded Booths/Bowland Fresh cheeses such as Lancashire, Red Leicester and Double Gloucester will be on sale shortly in Booths.

Connect Plus is also in talks with several retailers about plans for Bowland Fresh-branded crème fraiche and yoghurt in the autumn.

Director William Slinger said: "As a dairy farmer I'm aware that the best hope to get a fair price for milk is for customers to buy an identifiable brand, which we have now established."
