More children than ever before took part in the British Potato Council's "Help me to be Healthy" campaign this year.

The BPC said the nine-venue national tour had been visited by 13,000 people during its five-week run.

The aim of the roadshows is to change attitudes towards potatoes, which the BPC says are perceived as fattening by one in seven children, with two-thirds of mothers unsure of their health status.

A BPC spokeswoman said: "This is not purely about sales growth. We want to show people who still think pasta and rice are lower in calories that they are not."
