UK pig producers are taking a trip to the Far East in a bid to crack one of the largest pork markets in the world.
A delegation from the British Pig Executive will visit Bejing at the end of April. The visit, by chairman Stewart Houston, chief executive Mick Sloyan and international manager Peter Hardwick, follows an earlier visit to the UK by two Chinese vets.
Houston said: “China is the single biggest market for pig meat in the world. China also has one of the fastest growing economies which means people are eating more pork.”
He added that the Chinese put a high value on parts of the carcase undervalued in the UK.
