After two consecutive short crop years, plenty of good quality fruit should be in stores to support Bramley Apple Week, according to industry representatives.
The chief executive of English Apples & Pears, Adrian Barlow, said that post-Christmas sales of loose fruit had been reasonable, creating a good platform for the event, which takes place between February 7 and 13.
Growers have contributed £350,000 annually for more than a decade towards boosting awareness of the event, often through their marketing organisations. Barlow said that
he was confident that the major supermarkets would continue to give their support to the event, which includes the 2005 Brammy Awards, which are sponsored by William Reed Publishing, the publisher of The Grocer.
