Brazilian beef exports rose by 12% last year, according to the latest MLC data.
The rise was mainly due to increased availability of beef because of a lack of domestic demand due to a fall in wages and high unemployment.
Between January and November 2002 beef exports stood at 375,400 tonnes, up 12% on 2001.
Analysts at the MLC report the Brazilian government is continuing to work on eradicating foot and mouth with a programme of vaccination, with the completion expected by 2005.
