Brazilian meat producers have insisted their products are safe and that calls for an indefinite EU ban are unwarranted.

The Brazilian Beef Information Service said campaigning by 'anti-Brazilian trade protectionists' was undermining the beef trade generally and damaging efforts to increase consumption. BBIS was responding to calls from the Irish Farmers' Association last week for an indefinite ban on Brazilian beef in the EU amid claims of unreported foot and mouth outbreaks in Brazil.

BBIS said the claims were 'old news', adding that all the issues raised have since been addressed by EU authorities.
