Strawberry growers in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil have drawn up plans to standardise fruit quality as the first stage towards developing winter exports to Europe. Ultimately they are hoping to introduce a seal of quality. The industry at Pouso Alegre is already well established, accounting for more than 3,000 producers who last season grew nearly 30,000 tonnes of fruit worth over £5m.
