Retail sales of fresh red meat rose 4% to £2.8bn in the year to May. The latest figures from the English Beef and Lamb Executive and the British Pig Executive, compiled by TNS, show a 6% year-on-year rise in value sales of lamb, while beef and pork each registered 3% growth.
Beef sales stood at £1.48bn, pork at £683m and lamb at £555m.
Meanwhile, bacon sales rose by 2% to reach £1.05bn, sausage sales grew by 1% to £502m and sliced cooked meats showed a 2% rise to £1.6bn.
