As the big freeze continues to grip the UK, Quaker has reported record sales of its porridge following the coldest December in 15 years.

Year-on-year sales of Quaker Oats were up by 15.2% [Nielsen 52 w/e 26 December 2009] in the month of December while during 2009 as a whole the PepsiCo company reported the biggest sales lift in its 100-year history.

“Employees have been working 24/7 to keep up with demand,” said Simon Ely, Quaker Oats’ site manager in Cupar, Scotland.

“It is a clear indication that porridge remains a staple British breakfast, particularly when the weather turns.”
