Sales are set to top half a million for the first time in 50 years, said Paul Kelly, general manager of Kelly Turkeys.
He estimated 45% of the 1.24 million premium fresh turkeys sold this Christmas would be bronze.
Production of traditional farm fresh bronze birds will top 350,000 alongside another 200,000 free range bronze turkeys, Kelly said.
“Consumers associate the bronze turkey with tradition and quality. The dark feather stubs are now regarded by retailers and consumers as a hallmark of the breed.”
