Household cleaning specialist Reckitt Benckiser is taking tips from BBC2's Dragon's Den programme by trying to harness the talents of freelance inventors.

It has set up an initiative called RB-Idealink to source innovative ideas from outside the company and add to its existing portfolio, which includes such brands as ­Vanish, AirWick and Dettol.

Budding creators can log on to a web site,, which gives details of the types of technologies and products it is looking for. Rakesh Kapoor, EVP for category development, said: "We are entrepreneurs and we are looking for the same kind of people outside the company to work with us."
